Why? Because we don't have the time to not address issues head on. We also don't have the desire to be offensive. We want all of our conversations to be open, honest, direct, and pronto but those things need to happen lovingly and with respect.
Why? Because disappointment happens only in relation to the expectation that preceded it. We want to deliver what is promised to each other and to our clients. Or maybe a little more than what be promised. But certainly not less. How do we achieve clarity of expectation? Lots of questions and lots of communication. We need to find the right target to aim for in every endeavor.
Why? Because life is short. We don't want to play games with money or "rights". We need to not be critical or skeptical. It hinders production. So we need to trust the input and judgement of everyone on board. Committed relationships are built on trust. We want to all be looking out for the success of each other.
Why? Because things change. We want to be the best. We want to give our clients the best. Because you can only succeed as you innovate, adapt, change. Innovation requires humility. We can't claim that we don't have to change. We want to be always getting better so that our clients are benefitting from our time together.
Why? Because life is short. We want our ideas to matter to people. Pie in the sky is a fine thing, but it's not why we are in business. It doesn't always have to be about the bottom line, but what we're doing better be adding value somewhere. Otherwise, we are wasting time, money, and purpose.
Why? Because there is a larger story. Because it's right. And, because they are often the same thing: the truth is good is beautiful. Our work can mean more. Anything that is created can affect the environment and culture that surrounds it. Therefore, as creators, we have a duty to make things well.
